I'm chair of the grad research skills seminar, and I'm trying to figure out
what it is and how it works before semester starts next week. E.g. It seems
to meet weekly (1h,2hh and involve first year grad students. do I always
have to be there? And I'm guessing it's optional for students.
Anyone mind sharing info about the grad research skills seminar, any links
to relevant resources, like last syllabus or readings?
Also feel free to make any suggestions for things you think I should add in
this year.
Thanks!
Joseph

Dear Group,
I need one of you to volunteer in showing this movie at my grad class for
CSC 2612:
https://www.povertyinc.org/
I will not be present in the class on that day. We already have the video
file of the movie. All you need is to play the movie in the class:
Location: Room 119,
Woodsworth College (WW)
119 St. George Street, M5S 1A9
Time: 2-5 pm
Maryam - since you are taking this course, it would be great if you can
take this responsibility. You need to check the audio-video facilities of
the class and let us know if anything is needed for playing the movie in
the class. Others int he group will help you, if needed.
Best Regards,
Ishtiaque

Dear ThirdSpace,
Michelle Murphy is a Professor of UofT's History Department and she has
built an app for the Aamjiwnaang First Nation. She needs to know about
licensing her app (please find details below).
I am not an expert here, but if any of you have any
experience/knowledge/expertise, please let me know.

Hi Ishtiaque,
I hope you are enjoying these last gasps of summer!
I had a question I am hoping you can help me with. I recall that you
have built some nonprofit apps as part of your research. We have built
one for our lab that is for the use of Aamjiwnaang First Nation. It
does not collect data on users and does not require sign in, but is
informational, and facilities folks sending own email to the ministry of
environment.
I plan to make the software available on github, and to allso make the
databse of research available online as well, with creative commons
licensing.
I need to specify a licensing terms for the app store for the app
itself, and don't know what to do, or what is best practice. I am
wondering what you have done? Do you have any advice to offer.
I was looking at this license:
https://opensource.org/licenses/NPOSL-3.0
Many thanks for any advice you have!
Michelle
Folks,
Those of you who are planning to submit your paper with me to CHI 2020 were
supposed to share with me a copy of the latest version of their paper by
Aug 15. Since I am traveling to Toronto Aug19-20, I am extending the
deadline until then. Can you please send me an email by Aug 19 the latest
version of your paper (and link to the Overleaf) so that I can check and
let you know if we should try that for CHI or for a later venue?
Also, hope to see you soon. We soon will start our regular 1-1 and group
meetings.
Best Regards,
Ishtiaque
