Subject: [LIMITS] ICT4S Reading Group
To: LIMITS <limits(a)googlegroups.com>
Hello Everyone,
An outcome from the recent ICT4S summer school was a reading group to share
books to read and to keep the conversation going beyond yearly
conferences/meetings. I am forwarding this invitation to the LIMITS list to
invite interested folks to join us.
To keep it simple and informal we'll be communicating through email and a
shared doc (here: https://pad.riseup.net/p/jja9fZtjL1o_12dZwFpb) for
reading suggestions and comments. If we need a mailing list or something
more structured we can do that later. If you are interested in joining the
reading group, please add your name to the bottom of the doc. You will not
receive any further emails about this unless you sign up! If there is
anyone else who is interested in joining the reading group, please forward
and/or add them to the bottom of the shared doc (which we can pull from to
send any announcements). If you would like to opt-out/leave at any time
just remove your email from the doc.
So far we only have a couple of suggestions made by Christoph. I have added
a few I have/want to read as well. Please populate the list with any other
suggestions and/or comments, even if they are books you've read before and
think everyone should read. The plan is to read 1 book (or a few papers
2-4) per month and all meet once a month for 1-2 hours to discuss them. We
will meet via Zoom and I will send a google calendar invite once we have
the dates/attendees set. To attempt to accommodate the represented time
zones, the meetings will be at 3PM UTC, but the day will be decided via a
poll (here: https://www.when2meet.com/?12662659-gEPPo).
The first book we are reading is Jason Hickel's "Less is More: How Degrowth
Will Save the World" largely because that's what we already decided to
start reading during the summer school. For future readings we will
probably just have vote.
Lastly, if you have any comments or suggestions on the structuring or
anything else I've missed please let me know or chime in.
Thanks,
-Jay
