Hi all,
me and Seongkook are planning to run a usability study sometime later this
summer (ideally before the CHI deadline :) if the ethics comes through in
time). This is a classic controlled experiment, looking at a touch-based
interface to help correct recognition errors during voice input (dictation)
on mobile devices.
If anyone is interested in helping with this please let me know. Given that
the study is fairly straightforward, this is a great opportunity to
practice running controlled experiments for those of you who have not done
a complete such study yet (or those of you who are experienced but have
some spare cycles or wouldn't mind the extra pay :) ) The position will be
paid as hourly rate, and any publications coming out of this will receive
co-authorship rights.
The interface is almost complete, and a crude prototype is currently
working (prior work was done by a collaborator's PhD student at SFU who can
no longer work on this). However this will require a bit of additional
coding -- all in Python + Kivy.
Please let me know if you're interested in helping out and I'll follow up
with more details.
Thanks,
Cosmin

Hi all,
Below follows details for demo submissions to ISS'17 (previously "ITS",
previously "Tabletops")... it seemed pretty interesting, and it's a good
fit to some of you, so forwarding FYI.

Also just a quick promo email for the demonstrations at Interactive
Surfaces and Spaces conference (ISS 2017) will be in Brighton (UK) from 17th
to 20th of October 2017 …
This year the ISS interactivity night will be collocated with the Spatial
User Interaction (SUI 2017) interactivity session to double the fun! We
have also invited media to cover the event and hope this will be a great
opportunity for you to publicize your exciting research even more.
Additionally, all demos will be entered into a competition and the best demo
in each theme (on-body, virtual, physical and public space) will win a free
registration to the conference.
We are looking for exciting demos even though they may have been presented
somewhere else in the past, i.e. a short 2 pages abstract with few
modifications will be accepted as long as the demo is original and
exciting!
Note that we will be able to provide *Demo Honorarium for up to 10 students
who are travelling more than 500 miles* to bring their demos to the demo
reception on the 17th October. The total value of the honorarium will be about
$400 per student (this may include discounted prices for hotel bookings).
In addition to this, we will augment the honorarium with a 50% discount on
conference early-bird registration cost for the selected students.
Let us know if you have any questions, deadline is the 19 of July!
We look forward to seeing you in Brighton!
