Hello everyone,
We are going to have our HCI group meeting
tomorrow at 12:30 in BA5256. Mingming is going to lead a
brainstorming session on his research. You can find the abstract of
the brainstorming session below.
Creating good documents for
non-tech savvy population, such as many older adults, to use technology
products can help them adopt and use products that can potentially improve
their quality of life. However, it is not uncommon to come across
poorly written documents. To understand how documents should be written
for non-tech savvy population, I used product instructions as my target
documents and older adults as my target population to explore how they, as
end-users, would like the instructions to be written. Through a series of
studies, I identified a set of guidelines for writing senior-friendly
product instructions. Meanwhile, I also learned some challenges that
writers may face in applying these guidelines. In this brainstorm session,
I would like to introduce these challenges and brainstorm with you about
potential approaches to addressing them.
Thanks,
Ghazaleh
