Hello (from the other side),
Our bi-weekly meeting starts tommorrow Tuesday(April 12th) in the DGP
seminar room! As always, lunch will be provided.
We have once again two brainstorming sessions planned for this week.
Mingming Fan will be presenting first, his abstract is as follows:
Sensing techniques have been gaining a lot of attention in ubiquitous
computing (UbiComp) and HCI community for a variety of applications. Based
on whether a signal (e.g., audio) has been generated and outputted actively
from the computing unit (e.g., sensor, phone), sensing techniques can be
categorized into passive sensing and active sensing. By analyzing how that
output signal is affected by a system (e.g., space, object), rich
information can be learnt about that system. In this presentation, I will
present a few example applications of using active probing methods drawn
from both my own work and others. I hope to use these examples to provoke a
thorough discussion about the following three questions and beyond: 1) What
extensions can be done toward these applications? 2) What other interesting
applications can the active probing method also be used for? 3) How to
demonstrate the applications are actually useful and practical?
Rachel Franz and Caleb will be next. Their abstract is as follows:
We would like to lead a session to brainstorm potential concepts or design
spaces for CHI's art exhibition. Our goal is to create an experiential and
conceptual installation that engages the diverse CHI audience from
designers to scientists
Hope to see you there,
Candice Lin
