In our contemporary moment, data is positioned as a new frontier for colonialism. This raises the question of whether a relationship between data and colonialism is, in fact, *new*. This talk proposes that colonial cultures are data cultures. It further considers the continuities between historical and contemporary uses of data for colonial projects and discusses the influence of colonial data cultures on our current work in digital humanities.
