Hello Dr. Ishtiaque,
I’m reaching out with a meaningful opportunity for your students – please
share this with any students, or student groups who you think may be
interested.
>From April 25-26 in Toronto, I will be helping Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Canada host their first ever Hackathon and we need community-minded,
innovative participants to help make the event a success.
Why participate? Students will spend two days networking with others who
are passionate about improving their community and creative
problem-solving; gain volunteer experience for their resume and put their
ideas and skills to use as they work to move from an idea to a solution.
Students can learn more and register to participate by visiting
https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/mentoring-hackathon-for-big-brothers-big-sister…
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Akram

Hello all,
On behalf of Bahar Charity Student Group, I am pleased to invite you all to
the art exhibition "Labour of Passion"
<https://www.facebook.com/events/1555910974553722/>, where we will showcase
the photographs taken by forced labour children photographers. Together we
will acknowledge their art and send them our support for fighting towards a
brighter future. Please gather your friends and join us on Friday, 2019 Apr
12 in Hart House, East Common Room. The Exhibition is on from 5:30 to 9:30
pm.
You can find the poster and more details about the children below. It would
be great if you could circulate this email in other mailing lists and
departments too!
*"In the southern suburbs of Tehran, lies an underprivileged neighbourhood
of Balouch immigrants. With hardly a roof over their heads, the children
growing up here have had to work on the streets, day in and day out, often
for a few generations. They have no access to education and no prospect of
a better life in the future… that is until a couple of years ago.*
*In 2016, volunteers of Imam Ali’s Popular Students Relief Society
connected with these children and their families and started providing them
with a basic education in the Society’s local centre in Shahre Rey. In
addition, volunteer instructors of the Society have held art classes,
including theatre and photography for these children. The labour children
have proved exceptionally talented and thirsty to learn to express
themselves through art. They went on to have a successful theatre
performance and a photo exhibition in Tehran, both of which were received
very well by the public and the art community. *
*Starting from beginners’ photography classes with cell phones, several of
these young artists pursued photography into more advanced classes. They
are now involved in the Society’s events as photographers and hope to build
this into a real career. We now have the pleasure of hosting an exhibition
to share these photos for the second time outside Iran, after a successful
experience in Vancouver.*
*Please join us to celebrate their Labour of Passion!"*
Looking forward to seeing you,
Maryam
Hi all,
We will hold a TorCHI event on April 25 (Thursday) at 7pm, at dgp seminar
room BA5187. TorCHI is a local chapter of the ACM SIGCHI and an association
of UX practitioners and six students will be presenting their CHI talks at
this event. This will be a great opportunity to have an early preview of
the CHI talks and also to meet new people who are UX professionals.
Event detail is available on TorCHI webpage: http://torchi.org/
Anyone can come to the event and you don’t need to join TorCHI for this
event.
Best,
Seongkook
A piece of good news to share -
Yasaman's project on "Ambivalence" that she showed us in the last class has
been accepted for demonstration at ACM DIS 2019! Rifat and Nusrat
collaborated with us in this project. Congratulations, Team!
The final version of the paper and demo will be shared soon with all.
