Hello everyone, We are having our HCI meeting tomorrow on Tuesday, Mar 19th. The meeting starts at 12:30PM. In this week, Bryan will present his on-going UIST project BlyncSync and lead a brainstorming session on potential applications. Then, Joseph and Josh will present MathBot, an educational chatbot that teaches high school math. They will detail MathBot's system design and outline experimental results. Joseph and Josh are looking for feedback of the best way to frame the MathBot paper for UIST. Rifat's paper for CHI 2019 best paper honorable mention award

Folks, Today, CHI published the list of papers that got the best paper and honorable mention award in CHI 2019 (these are the top papers of the conference). Rifat's paper on the electronic waste workers in Bangladesh has won an honorable mention award. Congratulations, Rifat! The list is here. She is author of Chasing Innovation: Making Entrepreneurial Citizens in Modern India (Princeton University Press, 2019). Her research examines the cultural politics of high-tech work and the counter-practices they generate, as both an ethnographer, a designer, and a former technology worker. She is a co-founder and maintainer of digital labor activism tool Turkopticon. Her work has appeared at ACM SIGCHI, New Media & Society, Science, Technology & Human Values, South Atlantic Quarterly, and other venues. Short presentation: Wednesday 1-2 pm

Folks, A class of Social Work will visit our group at DGP this Wednesday 1-2 pm. We want to give them as overview of our work. For this, we are preparing a presentation to show them. In that presentation, all grad students will have a few slides to talk about their project (if you are working on more than one, pick one). Tushar, can you please start a Google slides in our lab GDrive and share the link with the group. Each of you please add 4/5 slides to describe your work: - Mention the problem you are working on and explain the severity, importance of the problem - Mention your research methods and objective. - Make sure you have added enough pictures, diagrams, and bullet points. Each of you will get 5 mins to talk about your part of the presentation. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, any suggestions welcome. Regards, Ishtiaque
