5180 and Seminar Room training

Hi Everyone, I will be doing an updated hardware training session on Thursday, September 6th at 3:30 pm. This is an update, so not required for those who already have access but recommended as we will be reviewing useful information about the new 3d printer, how to print to it remotely and how to dispose of cleaning station fluid correctly, as well as some laser cutter tips. I will also follow it with an introduction to conferencing and recording systems we now have it place in the lab, mostly based in the seminar room. I’ll talk about how to invite remote participants by phone or video, record lectures and run multiple simultaneous input sources to different screens in the room. For people without room access, it will be enabled for those who attend the training, subject to faculty approval. New Cleaning Instructions for Stratasys F170

Hi Everyone, _Print Head Cleaning_ We had our support tech in this week from Cimetrix to check out an issue with print head errors on the F170. The errors may be related to the age of the print head, but he noticed a build up of material around the model print head. To help prolong the lifetime of the print heads, it is important to clean the build chamber regularly when printing with the F170 (and to check the Dremel print head for buildup). Check it after every job you run and remove any stray filament stuck to the sides or on the bottom. For the Dremel, make sure the nozzle is clear as well. _ECOWorks Cleaning_ We have run through our supply of waterworks cleaning solution so it has been replaced with ecoworks cleaning solution. Instead of emptying the jar there are 6 tabs to be added to the water. The EcoWorks packages are found beside the F170 on the taller table. -John

Hi everyone, I repaired the Makerbot Z18 tonight - It had a rather nasty clog that required a complete disassembly and cleaning of the extruder. -John

Personal filament being used

Hi everyone, On Monday I noticed that someone has been using my personal filament, a 1 kg spool of 3d-Fuel black PLA. My name and email address was clearly labeled on the spool, and in the bag, and was separated from everyone elses spools. This filament was imported from the states and was quite expensive due to its tight tolerances. It was still connected to a machine, and a decent amount of the spool had been used. Please double check when you use a spool that it does not belong to anyone else. I have elected to keep my filament at home from now on because of this. Thanks, -John

Cleanup for 5180

Hi Everyone, I'd like to remind all users of 5180 that it is important to keep the room clean. Several users had difficulty working in the space last week because tools were left scattered throughout the space. Please take a moment to review http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/dgpwiki/5180MonitorAndCleanup Key points: Label your work Clean up before leaving the room. When changing waste water for F170, label the containers and call Hazard and Waste Management for recycling. Please try to re-use the F170 plastic plates whenever possible and clean any failed or complete jobs from the plates. Thanks, -John

Hardware Lab Mess Clean Up

Hi everyone, The mess in the hardware space is getting out of hand again. If some of this mess is yours, please tidy it up by the end of the week.
