Volunteers to organize and inventory the hardware space

Hi Everyone, Hope you are having a good summer. There is a lot of equipment and parts in the hardware space, and more will be added soon. Please let me know if any of you can volunteer time next week about 10 hours to help organize and inventory the space so that it is more usable and everyone can see what parts and items are there. Training for the hardware room access

Hi Everyone, We're restarting training for the hardware space. If you are interested in getting an update or having your door access re-instated, I'm going to run some sessions this week and over the next few weeks to train on the equipment in 5180. E-mail dgplab(a)dgp.toronto.edu for a time on Friday this week or Tues/Fri next week when you would be available for training. FYI returning Stratasys cartridges

Hi Everyone, Please remember to use all the filament possible in the Stratasys F170. It will allow you to change in the spools in the middle of the job. When a spool runs out, we should put it back in the box and then put them back in the cabinet until we have 3 or more, at which point we can ship them back to Stratasys for recycling. Thanks, -John

Sharing 5180 for the Fall term

Hi Everyone, You're receiving this message since you should have access to 5180 (if you don't and need it, email dgplab). Since there are only a small group I'd like to try just letting you work amongst yourselves access to the space. How do we use 5180? The max occupancy for 5180 is currently 1 person, so we'll need to use it one at a time for build work. Print jobs can be set up remotely by accessing 3dprint7910.dgpactive.dgp.sandbox and then coming in to set the tray and start the job. I know some print jobs (or parts of them) might require closer supervision, so for those cases you can use your discretion about whether you need to work in the room during the job. 5180 has a small window beside the door. You can use that to check if it is occupied. If it is, knock on the door to talk the current occupant. Unless there are objections, I think it will work to let the current user of the room and the person coming in work out a schedule to access it, whether that's to come in when the other takes a break to start a print job, or just finding out when they'll be done. If you want, you can use hardware@dgp like the notice of disruption list, to announce a planned visit to the hardware space. What about the desk schedule? The desk schedule is to manage occupancy in the rooms with the student desks - the occupancy limits are cumulative for the entire space, but separate rooms/spaces have separate limits. You can come into the lab to use 5180 on non-shift days by checking the capacity. An easy way to check capacity is to do a quick count on the sign-in sheet - less than 40 currently in should be okay. Don't go to your desk when you are in to use 5180 unless you are also on your shift day, as it could affect the distancing and occupancy limits for that space. Thanks, -John

Hardware lab + Seminar Room training session, Fri March 6th 3 pm

Hi Everyone, We will be doing a training session for the equipment in the hardware lab in 5180 on Friday March 6th at 3:00 pm . This is an update, so not required for those who already have access but recommended as we will be reviewing useful information about the 3d printers (Ultimaker, Stratasys and Form), how to print to it remotely and how to dispose of cleaning station fluid correctly, as well as some laser cutter tips. Room access will be enabled for those who attend the training, subject to faculty approval. If you do not have access to the dgp wiki (https://www.dgp.toronto.edu/dgpwiki/5180MonitorAndCleanup) please let me know. I will also follow it with an introduction to conferencing and recording systems we now have it place in the lab, mostly based in the seminar room. I’ll talk about how to invite remote participants by phone or video, record lectures and run multiple simultaneous input sources to different screens in the room. Insulin syringes in 5180

Hi Everyone, We're doing a cleanup of 5180 and noticed some uncapped BD U-100 insulin syringes in the room. If you bought them, could you let me know how many were purchased and how many were still in the room the last time you checked? We have found two that were uncapped and want to make sure while we're cleaning to be on the lookout for any additional ones. Thanks, -John

Hardware room training + Bluejeans Video Conferencing

Hi Everyone, We will be doing a training session for the equipment in the hardware lab in 5180 on Friday the 29th at 11 am. This is an update, so not required for those who already have access but recommended as we will be reviewing useful information about the formlabs and ultimaker printers. We'll be covering how to avoid print job failures, remote printing and reviewing how to dispose of cleaning station fluid correctly, as well as some laser cutter tips. The faculty have also decided to replace the Skype video conferencing in the meeting room with Bluejeans. I will give a brief tutorial for connecting to the bluejeans meetings and how to use the room system and web browsers with the meetings. Room access will be enabled for those who attend the training, subject to faculty approval.
