The researchers of this and a family of memory related projects are based here in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Their first contribution is a handheld orientation device for people with amnesia. The system was created based on participatory design methods.
[Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab (IATSL)] This multi-disciplinary group of researchers is based in the Department Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto. They're known for innovative projects such as an automated prompting system for handwashing.
[National Assistive Technology Research Institute (NATRI)] The researchers have built a system to promote communication for elderly people with dementia. In contrast to this project they are not using personal material and they are specifically concerned with communication in reminiscence therapy.
[Computer Interactive Reminiscence and Conversation Aid (CIRCA)] The National Assistive Technology Research Institute (NATRI) is based at the University of Kentuky and conducts assistive technology (AT) research, translates theory and research into AT practice, and provides resources for improving the delivery of AT services.
