Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering

The Mandate of the SfP WG on Genetics and Biotechnology is to monitor research on plant breeding, human cloning, and genetic intervention in the human embryo, evaluate the ethical implications, potential environmental
consequences, and scientific progress involved, and raise concerns when appropriate. Proposed commercial applications or use of new biotechnology in warfare will be a special focus of attention.

Our Mandate for the is to work for a universal Treaty that includes a timetable for dismantling all existing military arsenals of nuclear weapons, and which prohibits research on, manufacture, possession, threat to use, or use, of any weapon that functions by using a nuclear reaction.

The Mandate of the SfP WG on U.N. Reform is to monitor efforts by the United Nations to reform its structures and procedures for greater efficiency and fairness, to formulate proposals for such reforms, and to consider those of other NGOs; and to defend the U.N. from its detractors, and forces that would diminish its effectivess, such as the failure of the U.S.A. to pay its dues.
Warring Communities

A new working group on "Warring Communities" is being formed by Science for Peace for the purpose of undertaking conflict resolution between selected individuals now living in Canada who have immigrated from societies that have been at war.
