Professor Asef Durakovic MD

His work is explained on the Uranium Medical Research Center (UMRC) website
with dual addresses in Washington and Toronto. Please see www.umrc.net

Professor Durakovic was chief of the US VA Delaware Nuclear Medicine
facility responsible for care of persons exposed. He encountered Gulf War
Syndrome in veteran patients.

Professor Durakovic became a whistle blower and paid the price.

He continues to work as circumstances permit and publishes papers on medical
consequences of uranium exposure.

The DU Basics section explains relevant physics in terms of micro anatomy.
Ceramic uranium (uranium oxide smoke, dust - a material previously unknown
on earth) enters the body (human and other) as particles from 10 angstroms
to 2.5 microns. Bio-effects of uranium munitions are due to body burden of
particles which correlate with urinary excretion levels as with other heavy
metals like lead. There are heavy metal chemical and radiation effects.

The UMRC tested samples from Afghanistan showing that uranium munitions are
used in new ways and quantities. Three categories were identified a)
depleted uranium with reduced 235U content; b) natural 235U/238U ratio
uranium and c) material containing 236U, neptunium and americium indicating
processed fuel rod source.

Hence the term uranium munitions is now preferred.

Why whistle blowers?

The Los Alamos Memorandum dated March 1991 is apparently still in effect.
http://www.traprockpeace.org/twomemos.html Although uranium munitions are
clearly and demonstrably illegal under international law, post cold war
American and British military policy is based on this illegal practice.
