December Announcements Archive

Saturday, December 9

Information on the final exam has been posted. This consolidates what has been announced so far in class.

Thursday, December 7

It has only recently come to my attention that some students had problems submitting their assignment yesterday in practical as they were unable to locate the TA on duty. (There was a TA on duty, but perhaps you were unable to identify him.) Please drop by my office hour tomorrow (Friday) from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in SF3207, so that you may submit your assignment without penalty.

Wednesday, December 6

Announcements for Assignment 5 have been updated.

Exam period office hours are as follows:

  • Friday, Dec. 8: 11-noon in SF3207
  • Tuesday, Dec. 12: 3-5 in SF2302A
  • Tuesday, Dec. 19: 3-5 in SF2302A
  • Wednesday, Dec. 20: 10-noon in SF2302A

Sunday, December 3

Tomorrow in tutorial, you'll learn how to create makefiles. The GNU web site has an example and pretty complete documentation.

You'll also go over a couple of questions from last year's final exam that are in the spirit of questions that will appear in this year's final exam.

Announcements for Assignment 5 have been posted.

Due to popular demand, the deadline for entries for the Connect Four tournament has been extended to midnight.

Some people were having problems with one of the functions (getPiece). The compiler wasn't being helpful, and produced a couple of different object (.o) files, depending on what mood it was in: one that worked, and one that didn't. Hopefully, these newly compiled IRIX and Linux versions will work.

Friday, December 1

A page for the Connect Four tournament has been set up. Take a look at it. A couple of new files have been made available.

As announced in today's lecture, the due date for A5 is now Wednesday, December 6 at 5 p.m. You will submit your assignment envelopes to the TA on duty in Wednesday's practical.

For those that were curious, we don't plan to look at any code submissions until Friday at noon, if that means anything to those curious students.

Marks for assignment 3 have been corrected to reflect bonuses received for early submissions and work on the bonus exercise.

Marks for assignment 2 and the first term test have been updated to reflect the results of remarking requests.

Now would be a good time for all of you to double-check your marks. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Code conventions for you to follow when programming Assignment 5 have been posted. Hopefully these will give you a good idea of how to write more readable code (which usually results in better code).
