
During the spring of 2002, I was fortunate to spend six months in Africa. I 
went over as a volunteer with Canadian Crossroads 
International. For about four months, I taught math and computer science at 
St. Anne's Girls' High School, Kiriari, Kenya. Located on the slopes of Mt. 
Kenya, St. Annes occupies an idyllic setting. Before the clouds came in 
mid-morning, I could see the snow capped peaks of Mt. Kenya a few kilometres 
away. The hills around the school were covered with a verdant carpet of tea. At 
the school, I worked with a bright and energetic group of students and a 
dedicated group of Kenyan teachers. While in Africa, I also went for a bit of a
