Hello all,

We continue our bi-weekly reading group this Friday, June 1st, at 3PM. (Note: an hour later than our usual time) We will be reading "Yours is better!": participant response bias in HCI by Nicola Dell et. al, which was presented at CHI 2012.

>From the paper abstract: "We find that respondents are about 2.5x more likely to prefer a technological artifact they believe to be developed by the interviewer, even when the alternative is identical. When the interviewer is a foreign researcher requiring a translator, the bias towards the interviewer's artifact increases to 5x."

PAPER: https://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2208589

Seongkook will "champion" the paper this week by reading the paper thoroughly and leading the discussion, highlighting why he thinks the work is important.

The meeting will take place at Crimson Teas (415 Spadina Ave), which is a 5 min walk from Bahen.

Daniel has generously offered to fund drinks and snacks for the meeting. Crimson Teas has delicious tea and the owner is very nice, so consider your perishing physical thirst in addition to your thirst for knowledge.

Best,

Jacob
