Hi all,
I've been part of a new artistic practice called 'Live Coding' which involves writing code in front of an audience, most commonly to produce music and cool visuals. Live Coding is often done collaboratively - multiple people jamming on their laptops facilitated by software that synchronizes things like tempo across networks, and the performer's code is always projected for the audience to see. 'Algorave' is a community within Live Coding that is interested in creating algorithmic dance music with code.
There's an annual academic conference - the International Conference on Live Coding - for discussing the technology, art, politics, and practices around live coding. I think Live Coding has significant ties to the ICT4D and Critical HCI research Thirdspace engages with.
I'm organizing a 1hr get-together sometime next week or the week after to introduce Live Coding to some peers in/around U of T. I'll speak briefly about the practices surrounding Live Coding before jumping into a short demo and a longer 'jam' with everyone participating (no prior music or coding experience required).
If you think you might be interested please fill out this doodle poll and I'll be in touch soon about a place (on/near UoT campus) and time (please feel free to bring friends you think may be interested too)!

In the meantime, please feel free to checkout the links at the bottom for more info/context.
All the best!
