There are some criticisms of happiness index, I remember, but I have forgot what those are. Anyways, these reports are good sources of data. What can be fun to do is to gather similar reports (but on different metrices) from other sources and then compare and contrast them.

BTW, Jeffrey Sachs is one of the development scholars that every ICTD student need to read from.
