Information for "Surface Perception of Planar Abstractions" study data

Note: If you use our data or software in your project, please cite our paper "Surface Perception of Planar Abstractions".

Data files are in a .m matrix format. We used the R software and glmnet packages in our analysis. See "R_notes.txt" and "R_transformation_notes.txt" for examples of commands used in our analysis. Note that the ".m" files should load in other analysis software such as MATLAB/Octave, etc. Each row of the file contains two values. The first is the measurement/predictor at a gauge position. The second is the recorded error (in degrees) at that position.

The naming scheme is as follows:

A#_***.m

where "#" refers to the condition being tested, a digit between 0-9 for one of the following conditions:

0 - fixed view surface
1 - fixed view MPS
2 - fixed view XYZ
3 - fixed view radial
4 - fixed view crdbrd
5 - rotated view surface
6 - rotated view MPS
7 - rotated view XYZ
8 - rotated view radial
9 - rotated view crdbrd,

and where "***" refers to a specific measurement or predictor:

centdist - the centroid distance measurement at each gauge
consis - consistency at a gauge position
curv1 - maximal principal curvature, kappa_1
curv2 - minimal principal curvature, kappa_2
duration - mean trial duration in milliseconds for a gauge (>15000ms samples removed)
gauge_per - the gauge persistence measurement
medax - the medial axis distance measurement
thick - the local thickness measurement
user_per - the "user" or participant persistence measurement
view_norm - the view-direction and surface-normal angular difference measurement.
