The design of the focusser is inspired by the functioning of the eyes. It synthesizes the foveal vision by suppressing sensory information unrelated to object(s) of interest. It also synthesizes peripheral vision by generating qualitative motor preferences from related environmental conditions. As we shall see, the motor preferences are important to the artificial animal's behavior.
