Research

I'm a Technical Director at Pixar Animation Studios, leading a software engineering and R&D team for film production. I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Toronto in 2011. The general theme of my Ph.D. research was the design and development of algorithms to improve artistic approaches to 3D computer graphics. In particular, my research focused on problems related to creating, editing, and visualizaing articulated character motion. I have also done work related to character construction (rigging) and animation user interfaces. Beyond characters, I have done work in modeling, stylized rendering, and physical simulation. I now mostly make films. Once upon a time, I organized the animation research meeting in the graphics group at dgp. In my spare time, I can usually be found kitesurfing or trail running in the bay area. I'm also been know to spend a lot of time life drawing and spinning fire poi.
