I am [correction was] working at Starlab as a member of FOAM. Starlab no longer exists.
As a scientific researcher at Starlab, my research interests are in computer graphics, virtual environments, and 3D sketching of shapes. FOAM is an association of artists, technologists, and researchers, exploring novel modes and resources of cultural expression. My contribution to FOAM is providing technical expertise in the areas of computer graphics and real-time interactive systems.
A brief biographical sketch...
From Dec'98 to June'00 I held an eighteen month ERCIM research fellowship. The first nine months were with GMD in Bonn, Germany. The second nine months were with INRIA in Rocquencourt, France. More precisely worked with the Virtual Environments group of the Institute for Media Communication of the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD), and the I3D group of the French National Institute for Research in Computers and Control (INRIA).
I received my Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in November of 1998. My prior work in Hollywood focussed on creating computer based tools to assist traditional animators create special effects for feature length animated films. I would say more about that, but I signed lots of confidentiality papers. I have worked full-time for, consulted for, or held summer interns with the following companies: Alias|Wavefront, Cray Research, Digital Equipment's Cambridge Research lab (DEC CRL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Rockwell's Space Systems Flight Simulation Division (ie Space Shuttle), and Walt Disney Feature Animation.
