At the intention level, different desires compete over what should be done (which desire is to become the current intention), given the animal's external and internal conditions. This process can be well explained by a typical scene generated in our simulation: A fish is heading towards food when it encounters an obstacle in the way. It makes appropriate turns in order to avoid colliding with the obstacle, and once the obstacle is cleared it resumes pursuing the food. Such a behavioral sequence is the result of the competition between the desire to eat food and the desire to avoid collision.
