Subject: [playaland] shared tent structure estimate

Hi Folks,

One of the things that Peter, Sylvia and I discussed
yesterday was the group shade structure. The structure
would be about 26'x16' of covered shade (a doubled over
parachute). There would also be additional space for
tents under the camo netting around the edge of the tent.

Here's the list of materials that the group
shade structure needs:

        one 26'x32' nylon parachute
one pack of camo netting (6 10'x20' pieces)
two collapsable 10' aluminum tent poles
(checking w/ship builders for aluminum masts
                        and/or old used aluminum pipe)
eight 4x4 pieces of wood for a base (2 bases of 4
                pieces of wood each)
        some assorted bolts
twenty 30" stakes with loops for the cording (angle iron?)
        nylon rope
        bungee cords
        grommits

I'd like to go ahead and start ordering this stuff.
The main thing is I'd like this to be a "group" purchase.
I estimate the costs at about:

        1 parachute $39.95
        1 pack camo net $149.95
                (+ shipping ~ $10.00) $10.00
        two 10' collapseable aluminum poles ? (> $200.00)
        20 stakes ? (~ $60.00
                  or about $3.00/each)
        nylon rope ? (> $40.00)
        bungee cords and/or grommits ? (> $20.00)
        -----------------------------------------------------
        top cost for tent budget ~ $484 - 500

Of course I'll try to do things cheaper if possible, but this
seems like a reasonable budget for a structure for about 10
people or so.

Costs split between about 10 people would put us at about $50.00
each. Does this sound good? Should I go ahead with this
plan? Also, one advantage to this structure is it can
be re-used from year to year. Pay now and reserve a tent
space at BM ad infinitum!

Please respond to this note. I don't mind getting this
together, and putting the work in to make it happen,
but I want to know this is a shared thing. Otherwise I'll
plan on something a little more individual, and throw
my efforts behind my own share of Playaland.

If we approve this, I'll also co-ordinate our need for
space with Mayor Jim of Gigsville. Our tent space would
be beyond what we need for just Playaland itself.

Thanks,

Bob
